Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Sampson Ahi has urged U.S. businesses to invest in Ghana, highlighting opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, mining and digital innovation.

Speaking at the opening of the US–Ghana Chamber of Commerce Trade and Investment Mission in Accra on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, he said the initiative was designed to deepen trade cooperation, attract investment and create jobs.

According to him, the mission marks an important step towards translating the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Ghana and the United States into a stronger commercial partnership capable of driving economic growth, attracting investment and creating jobs.

“This Trade Mission is the living expression of a commitment made at the highest levels of leadership,” Ahi said. “It is a belief that together, we can build enterprises, expand markets, create jobs and produce shared prosperity.”

He said the mission seeks to identify investment opportunities and deepen trade cooperation in priority sectors including agriculture, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, fintech, tourism, renewable energy, infrastructure, mining and digital innovation.

Ahi described Ghana as one of Africa’s most attractive investment destinations, citing the country’s democratic stability, investor-friendly environment, strong legal framework and commitment to private-sector-led development.

He also highlighted the government’s 24-Hour Economy Programme, which is aimed at increasing productivity, expanding industrial output and creating employment opportunities across various sectors of the economy.

The deputy minister further pointed to Ghana’s role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, describing the country as a gateway to a market of more than 1.4 billion people across the continent.

“A U.S. business that invests in Ghana is not investing in Ghana alone; it is investing in Africa,” he stated.

Ahi urged participants to focus on practical outcomes, stressing that the success of the mission would be measured by investment commitments, export agreements, joint ventures, technology partnerships and signed memoranda of understanding.

Ghana’s Ambassador and Special Envoy to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, also called for stronger business collaborations between the two countries, saying the relationship should move beyond diplomacy to investments that create jobs and opportunities, particularly for young people.

He said strategic partnerships across key sectors of the economy would strengthen bilateral ties while contributing to Ghana’s economic transformation and sustainable development.

“The focus must be on building strategic businesses that create employment opportunities and empower young people to participate meaningfully in national development,” Smith said.

Leader of the U.S. delegation, Karen Fegely, said the trade mission provides an opportunity for businesses from both countries to establish partnerships, explore investment prospects and strengthen commercial relations.

She expressed confidence that engagements during the mission would lead to meaningful investments and mutually beneficial business ventures capable of supporting economic growth in both Ghana and the United States.

Fegely also reaffirmed the commitment of the American delegation to building sustainable business relationships that take advantage of the longstanding ties between the two countries.

The trade mission has brought together representatives from the U.S.–Ghana Chamber of Commerce, the World Trade Centre, the U.S. Commercial Service, the Commerce Department of Philadelphia, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters, the Association of Ghana Industries and private-sector stakeholders from both countries.
