A seven-member delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini is in Ghana to study the country’s land administration reforms as part of efforts to develop a National Land Policy in the southern African nation.

The delegation, led by Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development (MTAD), Nonhlanhla Dlamini, is seeking insights into Ghana’s land governance framework, including the management of customary and statutory land systems.

Speaking during a meeting with the delegation, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah said the visit presented an opportunity for both countries to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences in land administration.

He outlined key reforms being implemented in Ghana, including the decentralisation of land services, the digitalisation of land records and measures aimed at reducing land disputes.

According to Buah, Ghana’s land administration framework combines statutory and customary governance structures to improve land management and service delivery.

“Our focus is to ensure that land services are transparent, accessible and efficient while protecting public lands and the rights of citizens,” he said.

He added that district land offices are being established across the country to bring land services closer to citizens and improve access to land administration processes.

Dlamini said Eswatini chose Ghana as a reference point because of its experience in land administration reforms and efforts to improve land governance.

“We thought of our big sister, Ghana. That is why we are here to seek assistance while also learning through the exchange of ideas,” she said.

She noted that the delegation was particularly interested in understanding how Ghana coordinates the activities of government institutions and traditional authorities in land management.

The team is also seeking information on localised land administration systems, spatial planning processes and stakeholder consultation mechanisms used in the development and implementation of land policies.

As part of the visit, the delegation received a presentation on Ghana’s land administration system and is expected to visit key institutions within the sector to gather further insights to support the formulation of Eswatini’s National Land Policy.
