The Chiefs and people of Gomoa Ojo in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have called on the District Assembly and government for that matter to urgently intervene to address their ever-worsening water crisis. According to the residents, the acute water problem facing the area continues to threaten their daily lives and livelihoods.

The Omankrado of the Traditional Area, Nana Akyin Boadu and the Odikro of Gomoa Ojo, Nana Kofi Dadzie II noted that the acute shortage of water is severely disrupting economic activities within the community, particularly affecting women who depend on the resource for their household activities and small-scale businesses that earn them a decent income for their families.

Speaking through the media at Gomoa Ojo, the traditional leaders and their subjects expressed deep frustration over the persistent situation, describing it as a major challenge to their survival and well-being.

The community is therefore appealing to the government through the Gomoa East District Chief Executive (DCE), the Member of Parliament (MP), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and benevolent individuals and institutions to urgently support them with the construction of mechanised boreholes not only to help alleviate the crisis but also restore normalcy to their lives.

The Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. It focuses on universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene, while improving water quality, reducing pollution, and protecting water-related ecosystems (mountains, rivers, aquifers).

The chiefs and residents of Gomoa Ojo are therefore hopeful that the powers that be would urgent respond to their plight in order to bring to an end the many years of what they described as an abject water crisis situation of the people.
