The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has led a high-powered government delegation to the Klikor Traditional Area at Klikor in the Ketu South Municipality to commiserate with the chiefs, family members as well as the people of the Klikor Traditional State on the passing of the President of the Klikor Traditional Council, Torgbui Addo VIII, who died on Wednesday, 14th January 2026.

The Minister’s delegation was made up of the Volta Regional representative on the Council of State, H.E. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ketu South constituency and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to neighbouring Togo, H.E. Bright Solo Kumordzie as well as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. Nicholas Kwabla Worklachie.

During the visit, the delegation signed the book of condolence in honour of the late traditional ruler and also made presentations to the bereaved family as a mark or sign of respect and support.

The late Torgbui Addo VIII, aged ninety-three (93), served as Paramount Chief of the Klikor Traditional Area and President of the Klikor Traditional Council from 1983 until his death. He is remembered for his visionary leadership and dedication not only to traditional governance but also promoting chieftaincy cohesion not only in Klikor but also in the Anlo State and beyond.

The family has announced that funeral activities and rites for the late traditional leader will begin on Thursday, 1st October 2026, with the final burial rites scheduled for Saturday, 24th October 2026.

Meanwhile, following the passage of Torgbi Addo VIII, a new Paramount Chief in the person of Torgbui Addo IX (born Dr. Frank Hukporti), a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), has been enstooled to ensure continuity.

The Regional Minister described the late Torgbui Addo VIII as a pillar of the traditional council whose legacy will live on. Hon. Gunu also described his death as a loss to the Klikor State, the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole. He was optimistic that the new Paramount Chief would equally work hard not only to protect and preserve his predecessor’s legacy but also improve upon such feats to earn more glory and respect for the Klikor State.
