Ghana is set to receive unprecedented exposure on the global cultural stage after a leading Brazilian Samba school announced plans to feature the West African nation as the central theme of its 2027 São Paulo Carnival parade.

The development emerged during a high-level meeting between the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, and a Brazilian delegation led by popular Ghanaian YouTuber and tourism ambassador, Wode Maya.

The discussions centred on strengthening cultural diplomacy, promoting tourism and deepening historical ties between Ghana and Brazil through strategic cultural exchanges and festival participation.

A major highlight of the engagement was an invitation extended to Ghana to participate in the world-renowned São Paulo Carnival. The Brazilian delegation further disclosed that preparations are underway for Ghana to take centre stage during the 2027 parade, where the country’s history, culture, heritage and iconic landmarks will be showcased before millions of viewers across the globe.

Hon. Jajah welcomed the proposal, describing it as a significant opportunity to project Ghana’s cultural wealth and tourism potential to an international audience.

He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen connections between Ghana and the African diaspora while creating new opportunities for tourism growth and cultural cooperation.

The deputy minister noted that Ghana and Brazil share deep historical links through Afro-Brazilian heritage, making cultural collaboration a natural avenue for enhancing bilateral relations.

Observers believe the proposed partnership could yield substantial benefits for Ghana’s tourism industry, attract investment into the creative arts sector and further position the country as a leading destination for cultural and heritage tourism in Africa.

The latest engagement signals a growing commitment by both countries to leverage their shared history to foster stronger people-to-people relations, cultural exchange programmes and economic opportunities within the tourism and creative arts sectors.

Should the plans materialise, Ghana’s appearance at the São Paulo Carnival could become one of the country’s most significant international cultural showcases in recent years.
