Thomas Parteyâ??s minutes worry Ghana ahead of World Cup as midfield leader struggles for game time

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is facing mounting concerns over his form and lack of playing time just months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 32-year-old has featured for only 13 minutes across his last two matches for Villarreal, playing 12 minutes against Real Oviedo and just one minute in the recent clash with Celta Vigo.

Partey, who joined Villarreal on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2025, has struggled to secure a regular starting role. He has made 16 La Liga appearances this season, starting only seven, and is yet to register a goal or assist.

His limited involvement has raised questions about his current level, with Villarreal manager Marcelino GarcÃa Toral previously pointing to a gap between his present performances and those seen during his time in England.

With the World Cup approaching, concerns are growing over Partey’s match sharpness, particularly as Ghana prepare for a demanding group featuring Panama, Croatia and England.

The experienced midfielder remains a key figure for Ghana, and the new national team coach Carlos Queiroz has already held talks with him as preparations intensify.
