President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a state-of-the-art PET Scan facility at the Swedish Ghana Medical Centre in Accra, describing it as a major step towards world-class healthcare delivery and medical sovereignty in Ghana.

According to the President, the advanced diagnostic centre will significantly improve early cancer detection and treatment outcomes while reducing the need for Ghanaians to travel abroad for specialist medical care.

He said the facility also positions Ghana to emerge as a medical hub for the West African sub-region, capable of attracting patients seeking specialised diagnostic and treatment services.

President Mahama commended the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and management of the Swedish Ghana Medical Centre for what he described as a visionary investment in the country’s healthcare sector.

He stressed that strengthening healthcare infrastructure remains critical to improving the quality of life of citizens and advancing national development.

The President further announced a number of major interventions across the health, education and housing sectors as part of government’s broader development agenda.

These include the construction of new regional hospitals, the installation of additional CAT labs across the country and expanded investments in teacher accommodation projects.

President Mahama also highlighted government’s planned $300 million STARR-J initiative, which he said is aimed at eliminating the double-track system in secondary schools by 2027.

According to him, the programme will support the expansion of educational infrastructure and improve access to quality education for students across the country.

He emphasised that healthcare delivery, teacher welfare and education remain central pillars of government’s national transformation agenda.

The President said government remains committed to investing in modern infrastructure and strategic partnerships that will improve public service delivery and strengthen Ghana’s human capital development.

He added that initiatives such as the PET Scan facility demonstrate the growing potential of collaboration between the public and private sectors in improving healthcare access and specialised medical services in Ghana.
