The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has taken delivery of two locomotives and 20 freight wagons to support cargo operations across the country’s railway network, as part of ongoing efforts to modernise Ghana’s transport infrastructure.

The new rail assets are expected to significantly enhance freight movement and improve operational efficiency, while providing a more reliable and cost-effective alternative for transporting goods across key economic corridors.

The development marks a major step in government’s broader agenda to strengthen the role of rail transport in national development and reduce pressure on road infrastructure.

According to officials, the expansion of rail capacity will contribute to improving logistics performance, supporting industrial activity and facilitating trade within Ghana and across the sub-region.

The acquisition forms part of sustained government investment in the railway sector aimed at building an integrated transport system that supports long-term economic growth.
