Germany and Ghana are moving to deepen security cooperation following renewed engagements focused on border stability and emerging regional threats.

The German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft, paid a courtesy call on the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, after a visit to border communities in the Northern Region.

The meeting, disclosed in a statement by the German Embassy in Accra on Tuesday, May 5, focused on strengthening collaboration in response to growing security concerns within the sub-region.

Ambassador Landshöft briefed the Minister on his assessment of conditions in the north, stressing the need for sustained engagement in border communities as part of efforts to maintain stability.

He commended Ghana’s security agencies for their work, describing the Ghana-Germany partnership as one of the most effective within Germany’s global engagements.

Discussions also covered Ghana’s involvement in the Coastal State Stability Mechanism (CSSM), a regional initiative aimed at addressing cross-border security threats through coordinated action.

Both sides further explored opportunities in skilled labour migration, which officials say is emerging as a key area of mutual interest between the two countries.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening ties with Germany, noting that the long-standing partnership continues to play a critical role in national and regional security efforts.

He expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation would contribute to stability within Ghana and across the wider West African sub-region.

The engagement forms part of broader diplomatic efforts to reinforce security partnerships as concerns grow over instability in parts of the region.
