The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has disclosed that government has begun steps to strengthen national reserves and support cedi stability through the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP).

This initiative was revealed by the minister in a post on his Facebook page on Monday, May 4, where he co-chaired a meeting with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to advance implementation of the policy.

The GANRAP framework is aimed at reinforcing foreign exchange stability through structured gold accumulation and improved regulatory compliance within the mining sector.

“Our focus is strengthening reserves and supporting a more stable cedi,” Ato Forson stated.

He explained that under the initiative, government is reforming the gold acquisition system while tightening oversight mechanisms across the value chain to ensure compliance.

He stressed that the policy is designed to support national economic objectives without disrupting industry operations.

“This is a partnership. Not anti-industry, but pro-country,” he said.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders in the mining sector, including representatives of large-scale mining companies, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, and officials from the Minerals Commission.

The policy forms part of broader macroeconomic measures aimed at improving foreign exchange stability and strengthening Ghana’s reserve position amid ongoing currency pressures.
