The National Service Authority has entered into a partnership with Absa Bank Ghana to provide an overdraft facility aimed at supporting National Service Personnel (NSPs) facing delays in allowance payments.

The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the National Service Personnel Association, is designed to offer immediate financial relief to service personnel across the country.

According to the Director-General of the NSA, Ruth Dela Seddoh, the move responds to persistent concerns about delays in the disbursement of monthly allowances.

She said the partnership seeks to ensure that no service personnel is left stranded due to timing gaps between service delivery and allowance payments, noting that such delays have, at times, created financial difficulties for young graduates.

Under the arrangement, qualifying NSPs will be able to access an overdraft facility of up to 85% of their monthly allowance. The facility comes with zero interest for the duration of the delay, requires no collateral, and will be automatically repaid once the delayed allowance is released.

The facility will be available to all active NSPs who hold an Absa Ignition Account, a youth-focused account that offers zero maintenance fees, access to an international debit card, and additional benefits including travel insurance cover.

Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana, Edward Nartey Botchway, said the collaboration is intended to ease financial pressure on service personnel.

He noted that delays in allowance payments can significantly affect young graduates, particularly in meeting basic needs such as accommodation and transportation, adding that the initiative will help bridge that gap.

The NSA reiterated its commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring timely payment of allowances, while working with stakeholders to enhance the welfare of service personnel nationwide.
